The distinction places St. David’s Medical Center—including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital—among the top 2 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
From 2013-2015, if all hospitals collectively performed at the level of hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award, on average, 179,438 lives could potentially have been saved. Similarly, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award have, on average, a 27.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.*
The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2017 study period (2013-2015), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures—as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
